The Crataegus viridis Winter King or Green Hawthorn Winter King is a deciduous tree with very few thorns unlike most hawthorns. It has the particularity of producing very large orange-red fruits very popular with birds. These berries persist on the bare tree in the fall and through the winter. Its dark green leaves take on beautiful shades of purplish red. In May-June, it produces very melliferous white flowers. Its very decorative bark, a silvery gray, exfoliates with age, revealing orange tones.
