Acer Buergerianum or Trident Maple, a magnificent autumnal coloring.

Acer Buergerianum or Trident Maple is a tree native to China that can reach 5 to 10 m in height for a spread of 4 to 5 m. This variety of maple with trilobed leaves offers beautiful warm colors in autumn, ranging from orangey yellow to carmine red. The trunk is distinguished by a rough bark of gray color with orange nuances, very decorative, which cracks over time. The Acer Buergerianum, with an upright and compact habit, later widening, beautifully adorns parks and gardens. It also lends itself very well to bonsai cultivation.

In April-May, small pale yellow flowers open together in corymbs followed in summer by fruits called samaras. Its dark green deciduous foliage is adorned with hues oscillating between purple, carmine red and orange as soon as autumn arrives.

The Trident Maple thrives in acidic, cool and rich soil, located in the sun or partial shade, it adapts to dry soil and limestone but does not like heavy soil. Very resistant, it tolerates negative temperatures of the order of -20 ° C. It supports pruning very well.

A refined and elegant tree, Acer Buergerianum will do wonders when planted in isolation or in a free-standing rural hedge associated with other maples.
