Nashi Pear Kosui – Pyrus pyrifolia 'Kosui'

Main interest

The Nashi pear 'Kosui' is an old Asian variety. Its fruit is appreciated for its very crisp, juicy and subtly sweet flesh, with little acidity. The round fruits, golden with copper highlights, are harvested from mid‑August, making it one of the earliest Nashi cultivars. Grafted on a low stem, it is perfectly suited to small gardens. Note: 'Kosui' is not self‑fertile and requires a compatible pollinator.

  • Geographical origin: Japan, obtained in 1959 by crossing ‘Kikusui’ and ‘Wasekozo’
  • Botanical family: Rosaceae
  • Notable features: Highly appreciated in Asia for its crisp texture and digestibility. One of the sweetest Nashi varieties.
