The Cornus sericea Kelseyi, a very decorative dwarf shrub.

The Cornus sericea Kelseyi or Kelseyi red-osier dogwood is a dwarf shrub with a compact and creeping habit, fast growing, ideal as a ground cover. Wider than high (1.50 m wide and 0.50 to 0.75 m high), it densely lines flower beds, rock gardens, embankments and low hedges. It is very popular for its light green foliage taking on a flamboyant orange-red color in autumn as well as for its wood with reddish-brown bark turning towards burgundy red, very attractive in winter. Cornus sericea Kelseyi flowers in May-June. The numerous small white flowers gathered in bouquets are followed in the fall by small inedible white berries.

Easy to maintain, the Kelseyi red-osier dogwood accepts all types of soil, not too dry, cool, well-drained, rich in nutrients and preferably located in the sun or partial shade. It is very resistant to cold down to -20 ° C and tolerates wet soils, pollution and road salt. This dogwood needs to be pruned every spring in order to promote the growth of new branches which will be more colorful.

Decorative in all seasons, the Cornus sericea Kelseyi can just as easily dress an embankment, form borders, line a bed or be planted in isolation. It is also suitable for container culture.
