Description
Ficus carica Noire de Caromb, large, very fragrant figs.
Small fruit tree, vigorous and productive, 4 m high for a spread of 3 to 4 m, the Ficus carica Noire de Caromb or Fig tree Noire de Caromb offers twice a year (it is biferous) tasty figs a slightly elongated (50 to 70 g), with purplish, almost black skin and rosy-red flesh of excellent taste quality. The first harvest takes place in July, the second begins at the end of August and lasts until October. Self-fertile, it does not need another variety of fig tree to be pollinated.
Hardy, the Ficus carica Noire de Caromb can withstand negative temperatures down to -15 ° C. All types of soil can suit him, even if he prefers limestone, stony and draining soils in a sheltered situation. It needs heat and sun for optimal fruiting. Easy to grow and disease resistant, this fruit tree grows quickly and requires little maintenance.
The Fig Noire de Caromb can be eaten fresh, dried or in the form of jams. Particularly fragrant, juicy and sweet, it is in the kitchen that it will release all its aromas, as an accompaniment to meat or fat, in the making of pies. It also goes very well with fresh cheeses.
