Amelanchier alnifolia, an exceptional fruit tree.
Several choices available:
Its flowering in white star with long petals is very melliferous and decorative, it precedes the serrated foliage, this one is tenderly pink and velvety when breaking, it turns intense green to finish in shades of yellow, orange and finally blazing red in autumn.
Its flowering is followed by numerous fruits in clusters composed of large purple to black berries, sweet and juicy, reminiscent of blueberries, rich in antioxidants and vitamins. To be used in juices, jellies and jams, to decorate sauces and finally to make pies and cakes. These berries can be frozen without problem.
Although self-fertile, you will get a better crop through cross-pollination by planting at least two plants. The Alder-leaf shadbush is a more or less suckering fruit shrub, it supports pruning very well.
To be planted in well-drained soil, but above all with an acidic tendency (add heather soil). Resistant to negative temperatures down to -30 ° C. Beautiful planted alone, it is also perfect for entering into the composition of greedy hedges.
