Philadelphus Lemoinei or Lemoine's Mock Orange is a very fragrant, flowering bushy shrub that blooms in early summer, is easy to grow, cold-resistant and perfect for planting in beds, hedges or containers.
Description
Developed from the selections of the famous French horticulturist Victor Lemoine, Philadelphus 'Lemoinei' belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family. It is the ancestor of many modern mock orange varieties and remains prized for its exceptional fragrance.
Exposure: Full sun or partial shade
Soil: Ordinary, even calcareous, well‑drained
Tolerance: Good drought resistance once established; undemanding
Preparation: Loosen soil and enrich lightly with compost
Spacing: 1.20 to 1.50 metres
After planting: Regular watering to encourage rooting
At maturity: Water only during prolonged heat
When: Immediately after flowering
Advice: Remove spent branches; cut back one‑third of old stems at the base to rejuvenate and stimulate flowering
